Middle distance runner and Busan Asian Games gold medallist K M Beenamol said she is recovering well from a toe injury and is hopeful of participating in the Afro-Asian Games, to be held in Hyderabad from October 24.
"I have started light training and will see how things shape up by the end of the month. I am hopeful that I will be fit to participate in the Afro-Asian Games," Beenamol told in Delhi on Tuesday.
Beenamol, who won two gold and a silver medal at the last Asian Games, was in the national capital to attend the Samsung Olympic Ratna function, under which she along with other four athletes will receive a sponsorship for their training till the Athens Olympics.
The Kerala girl, who was conferred the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award last month, sustained a hairline fracture on her left toe during a camp in Patiala in July, forcing her to skip the ongoing Asian Athletics Championships in Manila, the Phillipines.
