Uzbekistan defeated India TFA Blue (ITB) 2-0 with two late second-half goals in the league encounter of the under-19 JRD Tata International Invitation football tournament in Jamshedpur on Sunday.
Uzbekistan, who drew 1-1 with Iran in their tournament opener on Friday, put up better show today. They kept attacking the ITB citadel and surged ahead in the 77th minute when midfielder Abbos Abdullahyev, after receiving a pass from the right flank, forwarded it to an unmarked Umarov, who tapped the ball into the net.
The visitors upped the ante after the goal and increased the lead in the 88th minute. Umarov chipped the ball to Abbos, who had little difficulty in finishing. Abbos was again left unmarked by the home side, comprising mostly up-and-coming players.
Though the Indians dominated a major part of the game, they failed to capitalise on the opportunities that came their way.
Midfielder Khemtang Paite had a gilt-edged opportunity in the penalty box in the first half but his full-blooded shot missed the target.
