Anju became the first Indian ever to win a medal at an athletics World championship when she clinched the bronze with an effort of 6.70 metres in the women's long jump final on Saturday.
"I am happy that your hard work and perseverance have borne fruits. May this be just the first of many more laurels for you and for the country," Kalam said.
