Sania Mirza and Rushmi Chakravarthy faced unexpected resistance in the final against Indonesia, but India lived up to their top billing to add the women's team tennis gold to the one their men won earlier in the day at the inaugural Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad on Monday.
The women's final was in contrast to the men's as it final turned out to be a close affair with the Indonesian girls throwing in a real challenge, taking both the singles to the decider.
But, Rushmi and Sania kept their cool at crucial moments to emerge winners.
Rushmi managed to put it across Septi Mende 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4) while Wimbledon girls' doubles champion Sania was stretced to the limit before she quelling the challenge of Indonesia No.1 Sandy Gumulya 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(5).
The doubles match was not played with the mutual consent of both the captains.
