India win women's team tennis gold

Sania Mirza [ Images ] and Rushmi Chakravarthy faced unexpected resistance in the final against Indonesia, but India [ Images ] lived up to their top billing to add the women's team tennis gold to the one their men won earlier in the day at the inaugural Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad on Monday.

The women's final was in contrast to the men's as it final turned out to be a close affair with the Indonesian girls throwing in a real challenge, taking both the singles to the decider.

But, Rushmi and Sania kept their cool at crucial moments to emerge winners.

Rushmi managed to put it across Septi Mende 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(4) while Wimbledon [ Images ] girls' doubles champion Sania was stretced to the limit before she quelling the challenge of Indonesia No.1 Sandy Gumulya 6-1, 5-7, 7-6(5).

The doubles match was not played with the mutual consent of both the captains.
