Third seed Shahzad Khan of Pakistan and top seed Rupesh Roy of India will clash in the boys' singles final in the ITF Pakistan International Junior tennis championships 2003, sponsored by Saudi Pak Commercial Bank.
In the semi-finals on Friday, top seed Roy demolished compatriot Lalit Mann without conceding a single game, winning 6-0, 6-0, while Khan caused a major upset, shocking second seed Sumit Gupta 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.
Gupta broke in the first game itself and took a 2-0 lead after holding serve. But the Pakistani levelled scores, returning the break in the third game and holding.
Games then went with serve till Khan broke again in the tenth game to take the first set.
In the second set, a break in the seventh game sufficed for the Indian to make the set score 1-1.
The decider saw the Pakistani in full cry. He broke in the first and third games to chalk up a 4-0 lead. Gupta managed to hold serve in the fifth, but the Pakistani broke again in the seventh to take the set and match at 6-1.
Top seed Shweta Kakhandki and Puja Shree of India won the girls' doubles title, beating Ditthim Punjaporn and Khunpitak Punchanoka of Thailand 6-4, 6-1 in the final.
In the boys' doubles final, the Indian duo of Rupesh Roy/Sumit Gupta will meet India's Vivek Shokeen/Sivendran Nishendiran of (Sri Lanka).
