Archana Venkataraman had mixed fortunes in the ITF Masters women's tennis tournament in Delhi on Tuesday, advancing to the second round in the singles event but losing in the doubles quarter-finals.
In the singles, she easily beat Sheetal Goutham, who had won for three consecutive weeks in last year's circuit, 7-5, 6-0, but lost to the pair of Goutham and Shruti Dhawan in the doubles.
After taking the first set 3-6, she and Jung-yoon Shin of Korea commited several unforced errors and lost the next two set 2-6, 4-6.
In the semi-finals, Goutham and Dhawan will meet Anupama Rajur and Chirshant Rajur, who got the better of Sandhya Nagaraj and Madhura Ranganathan 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7/5).
Top seed Liza Pereira overcame initial hiccups to beat Yamini Thukkaiandi 7-5, 6-1 in another first round match.
Third seed Ankita Bhambri scored a facile 6-3, 6-2 win over Preeti Rao while Sonal Phadke showed the exit door to Chrishanthi Rajur with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
The Masters features the best 16 performers of the first three weeks of the four-week circuit.
