Fine performances by Sanaa Bhambri and Tara Iyer gave India a berth in ther semi-finals of the Asia-Oceania Junior Fed Cup tennis tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Friday.
Both Bhambri and Iyer easily won their singles matches in the quarter-finals as second-seeded India beat third seeds Korea 2-1 to make sure of a berth in the World Group finals.
Sanaa had things her way while beating Ye-Ra Lee 6-0, 6-3 in the opening singles. But Tara made heavy weather of her match against Hae-Sung Kim. She dropped the first set but staged a fine recovery to win the next two and beat the Korean 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
In the doubles, Kartiki Bhat and Tara went down to Hye-Mi Byun and Ye-Ra Lee 6-7 (3-7), 2-6.
In the semi-finals, India will meet fourth seeds Thailand, who beat Malaysia 3-0.
In other quarter-finals, top seeds Chinese Taipei beat New Zealand 3-0 while Japan accounted for Indonesia by the same margin.
