India's doubles specialist Leander Paes and his partner David Rikl of the Czech Republic moved into the second round of the men's doubles at Wimbledon with a fluent straight sets victory on Thursday.
The fifth seeded pair defeated Spaniards Juan Ignacio Carrasco and Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in a first round match on court 19.
Paes and Rikl will take on the German pairing of Nicolas Kiefer and David Prinosil in the second round.
Second seeds Mark Knowles of the Bahamas and Daniel Nestor of Canada also made it to the second round, but only after going through several anxious moments in their match against Russia's Andrei Olhovskiy and Sargis Sargsian of Armenia. They won 7-6(4), 7-6(4), 7-6(6).
There was an upset of sorts when 16th seeds Tomas Cibulec and Pavel Vizner of the Czech Republic went down to Dominic Hrbaty of Slovakia and Andre Sa of Brazil 6-2, 3-6, 3-6, 4-6.
Top seeds Mahesh Bhupathi of India and Max Mirnyi of Belarus take on James Auckland and Lee Childs of Great Britain in an afternoon match on Thursday.
