The Korean Republic, who qualified for the semi-finals as the best second-placed team in the group phase, now face Japan, in the third/fourth place play-off. Whoever wins that game will qualify automatically for the women's World Cup, while the loser will play-off against Mexico for a spot at the FIFA showpiece event in the United States.
