Ignace Tirkey's goal almost at the call of time enabled India hold Australia to a 3-3 draw in the opening match of the second-leg of the three-nation Hockey Australia Men's challenge at Illawarra Hockey Stadium, Wollongong, on Wednesday.

The Indians, who were beaten by Australia twice in the first leg in Perth last week -- 0-2 in the league and then in the final 1-2, turned in a superb display after being two goals down to hold the hosts.

Two goals by Andrew Smith, in the 19th and 34th minutes, put the Aussies on top. But Dhanraj Pillay pulled one back for the Indians before the breather to set up a thrilling second-half.

Prabhjot Singh put India on level terms in the 55th minute before Scott Webster could regain the lead for the Aussies two minutes later.

The Indians threw everthing into attack and were rewarded when Tirkey scored just before the hooter.

In the second match of the day, Pakistan beat Australia 'A' 1-0 to post their first victory on the tour.

Zeeshan Ashraf scored the all-important goal in the 22nd minute, following the team's second penalty-corner.

India face Australia 'A', whom they beat in the first leg, on Thursday.
