Sania gets No. 1 ranking

Sania Mirza [ Images ] has shot to the top of the junior girls' doubles rankings.

The Hyderabad lass is the first Indian girl to take the No. 1 spot, following her maiden Grand Slam victory in the girls' doubles at Wimbledon [ Images ] early this month.

Her singles ranking too got a boost. She is now 15th on the list, according to the rankings released by the International Tennis Federation on Tuesday.

Indeed, it's been a watershed year for 16-year-old who made her presence felt in junior Grand Slam competitions.

She reached the semi-finals of the French Open [ Images ], partnering compatriot Sanaa Bhambri before the historic triumph at Wimbledon, where she partnered Russia's [ Images ] Alisa Kleybanova.

Mirza is now eyeing the US Open [ Images ], where she had reached the quarter-finals last year in the company of Isha Lakhani.

Sanaa is ranked 19th in doubles and 51 in singles.
