Paes wins 27th doubles crown

Indian tennis ace Leander Paes [ Images ] won his 27th doubles title at the $550K Swiss Open ATP in Gstaad on Sunday.

He and partner David Rikl of the Czech Republic beat Frantisek Cermak/Leos Friedl of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-3 in the final.

The victory earned them 26,800 euros (about $27,000) and 200 entry points each (40 race points), which took their team race points total to 497, inching them closer to Mahesh Bhupathi [ Images ] and Max Mirnyi [ Images ], who are on 498 points and in third place.

This was Paes's second title in three finals with Rikl and third in five finals this year.

Round 1:  beat P.Luxa/ D.Skoch, 6-2, 6-3, 
Quarter-finals: beat S.Prieto/ A.Sa, 6-2, 6-3
Semi-finals: beat P.Pala/ P.Vizner, 6-2, 6-1
Final: F.Cermak/ L.Friedl, 6-3, 63
