Hestrie Cloete of South Africa proved a cut above the rest of the field as she won the women's high jump at the World Athletics Championships in Paris on Sunday.
The 25-year-old defending champion cleared at first attempt 1.85m, 1.90m, 1.95m, 1.98m, 2.00m, 2.02m, 2.04m and 2.06m to emerge easy winner. With the gold medal assured she attempted 2.10 metres but failed.
Marina Kuptsova of Russia took the silver, clearing 2.00m.
Kajsa Bergqvist of Sweden also managed a clearance of 2.00 metres but had to settle for the bronze on countback.
