Indian cadet boys thrashed Thailand 3-0 to set up a title clash with Korea in the team event of the STIGA Canadian Junior Open table tennis tournament being played at Edmonton.
But other Indian teams -- the junior girls, cadet girls and junior boys -- failed to reach the same stage as both the girls' teams lost in the semifinals while the colts bowed out in the last eight yesterday.
The cadet team, comprising Devesh Karia and Sanil Shetty, had earlier blanked Canada 'B' 3-0 in the quarterfinals.
They had defeated Canada 'BC' 3-0 and got the better of Korea 'B' 3-2 in their group encounters.
Meanwhile, the junior girls team of Moushmi Paul and Sushmita Roy lost 1-3 against Korea. The eves had a bye in the quater-finals and will now play Canada for the third-fourth place.
In the Cadet girls section, the team of Mousumi Paul and Mahalanobis Salankara put up a spirited performance against favourites USA but eventually lost 1-3 to end their chances of a title. They now take on Canada in the third place play-off. But the junior boys were the biggest disappointment of the day as they lost to Korea 'B' 0-3 in the quarter-finals.
The junior girls' team of Madhurika Patkar and Sangeetha Sheshadri was the only Indian entry which failed to enter the knock-out stage of the championship as they lost both their Group 2 encounters against USA (1- 3) and Korea 'B' (0-3).
