"Leander will be out of the hospital on Sunday and will undergo house treatment thereafter," his father, Dr Vece Paes, said from Orlando on Thursday.

Paes said Leander's response to the treatment is encouraging and he is continuously being monitored by the M D Anderson Cancer Centre staff.

"He will have to continue the anti-parasitic medication for at least another two weeks after returning home," Paes said.

Leander, who was admitted to the hospital after suffering continuous headache last week, was diagnosed as having an abscess in the brain due to parasitic infection.

He has been prescribed albendazole (an anti-parasitic medication) to shrink the abscess. He is also taking steroids to reduce possible inflammation and resultant swelling caused by the abscess.

Due to a previous medical condition, Leander is also taking an anti-seizure medication.

Leander has been ruled out of tennis action for at least two-three months.
