Wimbledon girls' doubles champion Sania Mirza lost in the first round of the Canadian Open Grade I junior event to local girl Stephanie Dubois 6-7 (3/7), 5-7.
On a mixed opening day for the Indian contingent, Sanaa Bhambri and Divij Sharan lost their first round matches while Karan Rastogi and Somdev Varman moved into the second round of the tournament on Monday.
Sharan lost to G D Jones of New Zealand 2-6, 0-6 while Sanaa went down tamely against Belarus's Volha Havartsova 3-6, 0-6.
But the Indian contingent had something to cheer about as Rastogi easily defeated Sun-Yong Kim of Korea 6-4, 6-2 while Varman carved out a hard fought victory against Dylan Arnould of USA 7-5 (7/2), 5-7, 6-4.
In the qualification draw, national under-18 hard court champion Arun P Rajagopalan defeated Canada's Kamil Pajkowski 7-6 (7/2), 6-2 while Tara Iyer bt Agnes Szatmari of Romania 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in the girls' section.
