Scoring once in each half, Sunday Seah inspired Dempo to a convincing 2-0 victory over Vasco in the Videocon GFA Professional League, at the Nehru stadium, in Margao, Goa, on Tuesday.
With this victory, Dempo moved on top of the table with seven points from two wins and a draw while Vasco, who suffered their first defeat, are placed second with four points from as many matches.
Dempo showed a lot of determination with their midfield, combining well with wingers Lazarus Fernandes and Clifford Miranda, who sent incensive crosses into the box which nearly fetched them goals.
After missing three close chances, Dempo surged ahead in the 36th minute following a blunder by Saji Joy, who relayed the ball from a goal kick to defender Vinu Jose, who did not anticipate it. Sunday, who was standing near by, snatched the ball from Jose and shot home to find far end of the net.
Dempo, who continued to dictate terms, increased the lead in the 77th minute after wasting a penalty. Striker R C Prakash, from the middle, sent a through pass to Sunday, who shot home from close.
Earlier, Jose Colaco wasted a penalty as goalkeeper Joy dived to his left to collect the ball.
Vasco, who stunned ASEAN Cup champions East Bengal in the Federation Cup, was a pale shadow of themselves today. They started off well and had a close chance to surge ahead but Levy Coelho's shot was saved by keeper Abhjit Mondal off Menino through a pass.
