Joshna Chinappa's fine run in the World Junior squash championship in Cairo, Egypt, came to a halt when she lost to top seed Omneya Abdel Kawy in the quarter-finals.
Chinappa, who made history on debut by becoming the first Indian to reach the last eight the other day, lost 0-3 to the host player Kawy, going down 3-9, 2-9, 4-9.
"Many in the crowd expected an easy match for Kawy, who certainly is head and shoulders above the rest of the field, but Chinappa engaged the Egyptian in some exciting rallies and did reel of odd winners," said Srivatsan Subramaniam, joint secretary, Squash Racquets Federation of India in a statement.
However, the experienced Kawy's consistency in both attack and defence and shot-making helped her beat the Indian.
The team event starts on August 24.
