Close on the heels of East Bengal's triumph in Jakarta, the Indian under-18 team earned laurels for the country by trouncing the famed Brazilian outfit Botafogo 3-0 in the final of Wales International Youth football championship, for the M M Ford Trophy in Swansea.
Vimal Periyar scored a brace and Debabrata Roy scored once as the Indian colts dominated the proceedings against the junior Botafogo team in the final, on Friday.
Periyar, a Tata Football Academy player, drew first blood in the ninth minute before Roy increased the scoreline in the 36th minute to give the Indians a 2-0 lead before the breather.
The Indians, who had edged past Hartfordshire Centre of Excellence, England, 1-0 in the semi-finals, scored their last goal in the 51st minute through Periyar.
Coached by Stephen Constantine, the Indian colts had earlier sprung a surprise by getting past junior sides of reputed foreign outfits like Dynamo Kiev, in the Milk Cup in North Ireland.
The team will return home on August 4.
