It was a day of mixed fortunes for Indians in the Bhavana Swarup $10,000 ITF Futures women's tennis tournament, as only two of them could progress into the semi-finals, in Muzaffarnagar, UP, on Thursday.
Top seeded Rushmi Chakravarthi and Archana Venkatraman dished out solid tennis to post smooth victories but second seeded Sai Jayalakshmi crashed out after a straight-set loss in the quarter-finals.
Rushmi defeated Diana Costa of Portugal 6-0, 6-3 while Archana breezed past Briton Katie Miles 6-2, 6-2.
Sai went down to Heli Bargil of Israel 6-0, 6-3.
The match between Julia Vorobieva of Russia and Israeli girl Yael Glitzenshtein was a keen affair, with the former emerging triumphant at 7-5, 6-3 to clinch the fourth semi-final spot.
