Riding on a first-half double strike, Mohun Bagan got past Tollygunge Agragami 2-0 in a lacklustre seventh National football League match in Kolkata on Monday.
Brazilian Jose Barreto and teenage talent Sunil Chetri found the target for the fancied Kolkata giants in the slow-paced encounter at the Salt Lake stadium.
With this win, Bagan now have 32 points from 20 matches while Tollygunge remain with 22 points from an equal number of outings.
Bagan went into the lead in the very second minute of the match, when Chetri essayed a fine back pass to Barreto from the left and the Brazilian put the ball home to the left of Tollygunge goalkeeper Shibram De with a neat out-step shot.
Chettri then scored a spectacular goal in the 24th minute to consolidate Bagan's lead. Displaying fine ball control, the youngster dribbled past three opposing players, including the custodian before tapping the ball into the goal.
Bagan enjoyed territorial supremacy throughout the game while Tollygunge paid the penalty for failing to convert any of the handful of chances they came across.
