Mohun Bagan, Salgaocar in goalless draw

Title aspirants Mohun Bagan badly missed the services of their goal-scoring wizard Jose Barreto as they were held to a goalless draw by Salgaocar in the National Football League, at the Salt Lake stadium, in Kolkata, on Wednesday.

The home team had themselves to blame for the setback as their forwards missed a number of scoring opportunities that came their way in both sessions of the match, which seldom rose to great heights.

With star striker Barreto having to sit out the crucial match following two yellow card bookings, the Mohun Bagan firing line lacked the sting. The two strikers Abdulateef Seriki and R C Prakash could not really make much of an impact.

The Green and Maroon brigade could not capitalise on the home conditions and eventually had to settle for a solitary point against the free-flowing Goans.

With this drawn encounter, two-time champions Bagan continue to occupy the top position alongwith two other teams, having secured 19 points from ten matches so far.

Salgaocar have 16 points from as many outings.
