Mahindra maintains all-win record

Mahindra United maintained their unbeaten record beating JCT, Phagwara 2-1 in a hard-fought encounter in the National football league on Saturday.

The winners who recorded their fourth win in a row led 1-0 at the breather.

In a match in which fortunes fluctuated with both sides making forays into the rival citadels, it was Mahindra who surged ahead through Khalid Jamil in the 27th minute.

Following a Mahindra move, opportunistic Jamil who had positioned himself just outside the JCT box unleashed a powerful shot which sailed past JCT custodian Arvind Kumar.

After the lemon break, JCT desperately tried for the equaliser and came close but custodian Virendra Singh and defenders Mohd Najeeb and Jules Alberto foiled their moves.

However, JCT succeeded when in the 70th minute Hardip Gill scored with a solo effort.

But to their disappointment, JCT found their fate sealed when Austin Okolo struck the match-winner for Mahindra from a back pass from a Raman Vijayan.

With today's win Mahindra garnered 12 points in the league while the hapless JCT remained at the bottom with just two points - from two draws against Salgaocar and FC Kochin respectively.
