Vasco trounce Tollygunge

A determined Vasco Sports Club, Goa put up a dazzling display to trounce Kolkata's Tollygunge Aggragami by 2-0 and registered their second victory to earn full points in the sixth edition of the National football league championship match played at the Nehru stadium, Fatorda, Goa on Thursday.

Both the goals for winners came in the first half through Rui Wanderly Weis in the 7th minute and Satish Minz in the 28th minute.

With this win Vasco moved on to seventh position with eight points from five outings and came on par with Zee Churchill, Salgaocar, ITI and Mohan Bagan below table topper HAL with eleven points, followed by defending champions East Bengal ten points and Mahindra United with nine points.

Tollygunge reamined with same two points from equal number of outings. Vasco lads began on a rousing note with a control of midfield play where Satish Minz and Wanderly gave a good account of display particularly in the first half and came near scoring in the third minute from the start but visitors goalkeeper Sandeep Nandi brought off a fine save diving to his right on an attempt from Wanderly off a pass from Agnelo Gomes.

Wanderly made amends for his earlier lapse and shot into the lead in the seventh minute of the first half with a long range shot which found the net 1-0. The goal was a result of fine combine move when Sanjay Parte led to Satish Minz, who in quick succession switched the ball to Rui Wanderely, whose volley from the top of the box found the net.

Inspired by the lead, Vasco attacked vigorously and increased the lead in the 28th minute of the first half through Satish Minz. When Wanderely after collecting a pass from Minz from the left flank and run down with the ball dangerously which hit the leg of rival defender Vishwanth Mondal and deflected on which Minz, pounced upon and unleashed a powerpacked shot that hit the cross bar and entered into the net 2-0.

There was not a single good move from the visitors in the first half. Even foreign players Akeem Abolonke and Adeola Adigri failed to click.

Tollygunge after conceding two goals brought in Amit Roy under the bar in place of Sandeep Nandi.

After change of ends Vasco continued to attack and could have won by much bigger margin had they utilised the chances before them specially in the second half. In the 48th minute Peter Rodriques full blood shot hit the goal post and went out off a pass from Wanderely. Later in the 55th minute Agnelo Colaco header missed the target off a free kick taken by Koshimov Avazbek.

Tollygunge made only noticeable move in the 68th minute when Akeem Abolonke gave pass to Sashti Duley, whose left footer was nicely saved by Vasco's goalkeeper Rogerio Ramos diving to his right.

Vasco had one more chance in the 70th minute to consolidate their postion but Kashimov Avazbek's left footer from the top of the box off a pass from Marcos Pereira went wide. Towards the close of the play Satish Minz missed a sitter in an one to one situation Peter fed to Satish, whose try went over the bar.

It was Vasco who had an upper hand with better share of exchanges in both the halves.
