Churchill, Salgaocar draw 1-1

Zee Churchill and Salgoacar played out a 1-1 draw in their 11th round Tata National Football League match, at the Nehru stadium, in Fatorda, Goa, on Thursday.

Alvito D'Cunha scored for Salgoacar in the 32nd minute while Osumanu Husseini equalised in the 37th minute for Zee Churchill.

Salgaocar could have won the match had their forwards been quick in grasping the chances they had, especially in the second half.

In an evenly balanced first half, Salgaocar came near scoring in the 10th minute, but Sunday Seah's well attempted try hit Churchill defender Denzil and went wide, following a free-kick from Dennis Cabral.

Four minutes later, Churchill's Iraqui import Mousavi Amin's shot missed the mark narrowly.

Churchill had one more chance in the 17th minute, but forward Yakubu Yusif's volley landed straight into the hands of Salgoacar goalkeeper Juje Siddi.

Salgaocar shot into the lead in the 32nd minute through an Alvito D'Cunha free kcik. But the lead was shortlived as Churchill roared back into the game and restored the parity in the 37th minute through defender Osumanu Husseini, whose header found the net.

After change of ends, Salgoacar played with renewed vigour and made deperate attempts for the match-winner but without luck.

In the 68th minute, Dharamjit Singh missed an easy chance off a cross from Alvito D'Cunha., while, in the 80th minute, Sunday Seah failed to connect a well measured cross from Eugune Gray.

Then, in the 81st minute, Salgoacar had a golden opportunity to clinch the issue. Eugune Gray passed to Alvito D'Cunha, who, in turn, crossed to Alex Ambrose. The last-named had to only put the ball into the goal but shot wide with Churchuill goalkeeper Edward Ansah out of postion.
