Marcos Pereira nets
brace for Vasco

A fine brace by Marcos Pereira enabled Arlem-sponsored Vasco, Goa, to blank F C Kochin 2-0 in their 11th round match in the Tata-National Football League at the Nehru stadiun, in Fatorda, Goa, on Wednesday.

Both the goals came in the second half.

With this win, Vasco moved on par with Zee Churchill, with 18 points.

For F C Kochin this was their fifth defeat in 11 outings.

Vasco could have romped home by a much bigger margin had not Kochi's goalkeeper Ali Abubaker brought off at least four brilliant saves.

After a barren first session, the home team regrouped well and put up a spirited display. They moved ahead in the 54th minute through Pereira, who, after collecting a ball from Abhay Kumar from the centre, dribbled past a couple of rival defenders and unleashed a stiff grounder which found the net (1-0).

Inspired by the goal, Vasco continued to attack vigorously and consolidated their lead in the 58th minute when Pereira found the net from a flag-kick by Satish Minz.
