Shailja Pujari also strikes triple gold in weightlifting

Gold medals continued to pour in for India from the weightlifting event with Shailja Pujari winning all the three sections of the women's (up to) 75 kg category in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester on Saturday.

Shailja lifted 97.5kg in snatch and 125kg in clean and jerk for a total of 222.5kg to become the third Indian woman to make a clean sweep of the three gold medals in a weightlifting event at this Games.

Earlier, N Kunjarani Devi (48kg) and Sanamacha Chanu (53kg) had won all the three gold medals in their respective weight categories.

Shailja's three gold medals brought India's haul in the weightlifting event to an impressive 13 gold, 12 silver and eight bronze medals.

Deborah Lovely of Australia won the silver with a total lift of 202.5kg (snatch 95kg, clean and jerk 107.5kg) while the bronze was taken by Saree Willians with an effort of 182.5 kg (snatch 82.5, clean and jerk 100kg).
