Gagan to lead for Jr World Cup

Gagan Ajit Singh, who represented India at the Sydney Olympics, will lead the team in the junior World Cup hockey tournament in Hobart, from October 9 to 21.

The team, which has two other members from the Sydney Games' squad in goalkeeper Devesh Chauhan and Deepak Thakur, was announced in Hyderabad after the completition of a series of camps by Indian Hockey Federation president K P S Gill on Thursday evening.

Gill said the team is very strong and will surely come up with a good showing in the tournament.

The team will leave on September 25 for Sydney, where it will have a ten-day training camp to acclamitize to Australian weather conditions.

Chief coach Rajinder Singh said his boys will play an attacking game and concentrate on scoring from penalty-corners.

The team:
Goalkeepers: Devesh Chauhan and Bharat Chetri.
Full backs: Bikramjit Singh, Jugraj Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh and K P Roy.
Half backs: Prabodh Trikey, Bipin Fernandez, Ignacious Trikey, Vikram Pillay, Bimal Lakra, Rajnikanth and Viren Rasquinha.
Forwards: Gagan Ajit Singh (captain), Deepak Thakur (vice-captain), Arjun Halappa, Rajpal Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Inderjit Singh and Tejbir Singh.
Chief coach: Rajinder Singh; Assistant coach: N.S. Sodhi; Trainer: Sampath Kumar, Doctor: Dr.Rajkumar; Manager: Sathyanarayana.
