Gopichand seeded No. 2 for Indonesian Open

All England champion Pulella Gopichand has been seeded second at the Sanyo Indonesia Open badminton tournament, being played at Jakarta from July 23-29.

In the men's singles, Korea's young gun Lee Hyun Il is top seeded following the withdrawal of the Chinese team. The Chinese Badminton Association cited the unstable political situation in Jakarta as their reason for pulling out of the tournament.

Indian ace Gopichand will be looking to avenge his premature exit at the Malaysia Open and will face Sweden's Daniel Eriksson in the first round while the top seeded Lee plays a qualifier.

Indonesian favourites Hendrawan and Marleve Mainaky are seeded third and fourth. Mainaky also plays a qualifier while new world champion Hendrawan faces Malaysia's Yeoh Kay Bin in the first round.

Malyasian Open runners-up Rony Augustinus, seeded 16th, will face Jochen Cassel of Germany in the first round.

The other Indians to get a direct entry in the men's singles main draw are Chetan Anand and Abhinn Shyam Gupta.

Chetan will face Mawardi Wiempie of Indonesia while Abhinn Shyam Gupta will face a qualifer in the first round.

Sachin Ratti will have to go through the qualifiers. He will face Simon Petrus of Indonesia in the first round.

In the men's doubles, V Diju and Thomas Sanave will meet the Japanese pair of Shoji Sato and Sho Sasaki, while Vijaydeep Singh and Markose Bristow will face Indonesian pair of Bambang Suprianto and Tri Kusharyanto in the first round of the main draw.

In the women's singles, B R Meenakshi and Manjusha Kanwar have got a direct entry into the main draw. Meenakshi will face Wai Chee Louisa Koon of Hong Kong, while Manjusha will face a qualifier.

PVV Lakshmi is in the singles qualifiers, where she will face Yuan Kartika of Indonesia.

In the women's doubles, B R Meenakshi and Manjusha Kanwar have a direct entry and will face the Indonesian pair of Mundiasti Rani and Marlina Lina in the first round.

In the mixed doubles, V Diju and Manjusha Kanwar will face the Indonesian pair of Nova Widianto and Marisa Vita in the first round of the main draw while Thomas Sanave and B R Meenakshi will face Indoesian pair of Devin Lahardi and Andriyani Nurul, and Chetan Anand and P V V Lakshmi will face Ahmad Yono Yusuf and Gresya Polii of Indonesia in the first round of the qualifiers.
