Mahindra rally to down Tollygunge

A goal in the dying seconds of injury time enabled Mahindra United beat Tollygunge Aggragami 2-1 and register their second victory in the sixth National Football League at the Cooperage in Mumbai on Monday.

In the process, the Mumbai challengers swelled their points tally to eight from four matches and moved to the top of the 12-team league.

Tollygunge suffered their second defeat in four matches. They have still to post a victory.

International Khalid Jamil scored the winner just when the match looked destined for a draw.

After Akeem Abolonke put Tollygunge ahead in the 20th minute, Mahindra staged a splendid recovery. They restored parity in the 54th minute through Mohammad Najeeb and then laid seige on the Tollygunge goal. It was a splendid display by goalkeeper Sandip Nandi that denied the Mumbai side the match-winner till the dying moments of the match.
