ULFA leader Pranati Deka brought to Guwahati

Pranati Deka hands over her baby to a Bombay policewoman
Pranati Deka, cultural secretary of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom, was brought to Guwahati on Monday. She is to be produced before the court on Tuesday.

An official source said Deka and two of her associates Kamal Barua and Arun Deka were brought by a special Assam police team which had gone to Bombay to take custody of the ULFA leaders.

Deka was arrested at the Santacruz airport when she was on her way to New Delhi. She was leaving after delivering a baby at the Jaslok hospital, Bombay. She is the wife of ULFA's finance secretary Chitrabon Hazarika.

She was being followed by intelligence officers for the past two months from New Delhi. But she was not arrested due to her advanced pregnancy.

During the interrogation by Assam police and central intelligence officers, Deka allegedly provided valuable information about the banned organisation. She is one of the top-most ULFA leaders now in custody.
