Ganesh Chaturthi is the birthday of Lord Ganesh. On this day, the idol of Lord Ganesh is brought to homes and elaborately decorated outdoor pandals where people pray to the deity. Ganesh is the lord of success and the destroyer of evils and obstacles.

For 10 days, from Bhadrapad Shudh Chaturthi to the Ananta Chaturdashi, Ganesh is worshipped. This year on the 11th day, the idol of Ganesh will be taken to be immersed in a river or sea symbolising a ritual see-off of the Lord in his journey towards his abode in Kailash.
