3 cops, 3 Naxals killed in AP encounters

Three police constables and three Naxalites belonging to the banned People's War Group were killed in two separate encounters in Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

The police said that three constables, one each belonging to the State Special Police, the Armed Police and the local police and two PWG extremists were killed in an encounter at the Girijan Primary Co-operative Society building near Sankavaram village in East Godavari district.

The Naxalites were camping near the building after blasting the mandal revenue office, and setting ablaze a jeep parked in the office premises. Some records were also burnt.

A pistol and several rounds of live and spent bullets besides a wireless set and telephone equipment were found near the encounter spot.

In the other encounter at Laxmidevigudem village in Nalgonda district, a Naxalite was killed on the spot while another accompanying him managed to escape.
