Probe sought into death of Sanjoy Ghose

The North-East Media Forum has demanded an inquiry into the reported death of social activist Sanjoy Ghose under mysterious circumstances after he was kidnapped by United Liberation Front of Assam extremists.

In a statement, the NEMF expressed fears that no social workers or voluntary organisations outside the North-Eastern states would take up work in the area following this development.

If the ULFA felt Ghose belonged to an intelligence agency, he should have been warned off instead of being kidnapped and allowed to die in the manner reported, the forum said.

The NEMF appealed to ULFA to provide more information about the death of Ghose, general secretary of the Association of Voluntary Agencies for Rural Development (North-East) to allay suspicions.
