Two militants were killed during a fierce gunfight in south Kashmir on Monday.
Police said troops of 42 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and police jointly surrounded a house on a specific tip-off in the Moshwara village of the south Kashmir Shopian district in the morning.
"The holed-up militants were challenged to surrender upon which they resorted to indiscriminate firing at the surrounding troops. The security forces also returned the fire, resulting in an encounter which ended late this afternoon, after both the holed up militants were killed," a police officer said.
The house in which the militants were holed up was also destroyed during the gunfight.
The slain militants were identified as Abdullah Pathan and Hamza Bhai belonging to Hizbul Mujaheedin (HM) outfit, according to police sources.
Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the house.
