The heightened security measures for Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist caught alive during the terror siege on Mumbai in November last year, are causing inconvenience to people in the vicinity of Mumbai's Arthur Road jail.
"People are being inconvenienced due to the security measures in place for Ajmal Kasab," Sachin Ahir of the Nationalist Congress Party said in the assembly on Wednesday.
Over 40,000 people living in the neighbourhood of the high security Arthur Road jail are facing problems due to the unprecedented security measures undertaken by the police, Ahir added.
"Besides routine security checks, people are asked for identity proof like ration cards and even guests and relatives of people nearby are asked for the documents," Ahir said.
Speaker Babasaheb Kuekar also asked the state government to consider people's grievances and take necessary steps. Minister of State for Home Nitin Raut said the government would take necessary steps.
