SC formulating five year plan to clear 3 crore pending cases

The Supreme Court is formulating a five year plan to deal with the three crore cases pending in different courts in the country. This came out during a three day judicial workshop which concluded in Nainital on Sunday.

As on date, each judge of the 13,000 courts in the country has a pendency of 2,000 cases while each year another 1.5 crore fresh cases are admitted, the participants at the workshop were told.

The major recommendation of the north zone judicial workshop on Planning and Management of Timely Justice, jointly organised by the national judicial academy, Uttarakhand high court and the Uttarakhand judicial academy was that there should be greater planning and management within the judicial system.

The recommendations of this workshop will be presented in the national workshop next month on the same subject proposed to be held at the national judicial academy, Bhopal, the director of national judicial academy, Professor G. Mohan Gopal told PTI.

Justice V V S Rao of Andhra Pradesh high court, Justice Shantanagodar of Karnataka high court, Justice Surendra Singh of Himachal Pradesh high court and Justice B M Kandpal, Acting chief justice of the Uttarakhand high court were among those who participated.
