Addressing a public meeting at Kizhasevalpatti village near Karaikudi, he said security had been tightened across the country in the last five months since he took over as the home minister.
"We will continue to increase security all over the country. You will see more security in the next three months", he said.
Chidambaram said that due to success of Indian foreign policy, Pakistan had accepted that Mumbai terrorist strikes were planned on its soil.
Attacking the Bharatiya Janata Party, he described it as a Hindutva party which "did not care for Dalits, minorities and OBCs."
The NDA government, led by the BJP, had not taken any action for improving the lot of farmers, women, rural folk and students, he charged adding this was because "BJP is a pro-traders and pro-Hindi party".
On his assuming charge as home minister, Chidambaram said "I thought I will continue as the finance minister for five years. But the party asked me to take over the home portfolio five months back. As a loyal party worker, I had no other choice but to abide by taking up the responsibility of the ministry".
