Amid a raging global debate over human cloning, Rajya Sabha on Friday heard a call from one of its members who said he would not mind having a law for such a research if the Mahatma could be recreated through it.

"Can Mahatma Gandhi [ Images ] be made to reborn with all his genes? Congressman Shantaram [ Images ] Laxman Naik raised a supplementary question during the Question Hour.

When the Chairman of House sought some clarity on the query, Naik repeated, "Isn't a law worth having if through it research could be to done to have Gandhi in a cloned form, with all his qualities -- honesty, dedication and simplicity? This would help all of us who are going astray and need guidance."
