Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh on Tuesday termed the attack on a group of women in a Mangalore pub, allegedly by members of the right-wing Shri Ram Sena, as 'unfortunate'.

Addressing a joint press conference with Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Singh said that the Karnataka government was doing everything it could to act against the perpetrators of the attack.

Singh added that stringent action has been taken against the culprits involved in the incident. Terming the incident an 'unacceptable act of hooliganism', Singh added that it was unfortunate that some people were politicising the issue and leveling charges against the BJP.

"Our political opponents and the so-called secularists suffer from an RSS-BJP phobia. They tend to level allegations without even verifying the facts," he said.

Yeddyurappa informed the mediapersons that action has been initiated against the culprits and all the guilty persons would be punished. He also distanced himself from the Shri Ram Sena, claiming the outfit had nothing to do with the Sangh Parivar.

He criticised the right-wing organisation for taking the law into their own hands and declared that such acts would not be tolerated.
