Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's health is improving and he will be completely fit by the time the Lok Sabha elections will be held, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lalji Tandon said in Lucknow on Monday.
"There are a few months left for the (Lok Sabha) poll. By the time it will be held, Vajpayee will be completely fit," he said.
On the likelihood of the BJP stalwart contesting the Lok Sabha election from Lucknow, Tandon said "to contest the poll or not will be decided by Atalji himself."
However, the upcoming battle for the Lucknow seat will be an Atal Bihari Vajpayee affair irrespective of the former Premier entering the fray or not, Tandon said.
His close association with Lucknow is enough to fetch votes for the BJP, he said adding "I am confident his name and persona will dominate the election in the constituency."
"Even if he is not in the fray, his name and pictures will contest the election," Tandon said.
The BJP leader's remarks came in the wake of Samajwadi Party candidate and Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt stating that he would not contest if Vajpayee decided to seek re-election from the Lucknow constituency.
On Dutt's candidature, Tandon said "no party has a political face to contest the election from Lucknow."
On the prospects of his contesting the election in case Vajpayee decided to opt out, Tandon said he would abide by any decision taken by the party in this regard.
"Whatever the party decides, I will abide by it," he said.
