Two policemen and two Lashkar-e-Tayiba terrorists were killed in a gun battle in the forests of Kanga Gali in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Tuesday.
A senior officer said the police launched an operation in the afternoon to bust a terrorist hideout in the region following a tip-off.
"The hiding terrorists opened fire at the joint police-army raiding party, triggering a fight that is still continuing. So far two policemen and two Lashkar men have been killed," Inspector General, Jammu, K Rajendra told rediff.com. The bodies of the ultras have not been recovered.
"We have rushed reinforcements. Two or three terrorists are still believed to be hiding," he said.
Last week, terrorists evaded an army operation that lasted for ten days. Two army troopers, one special police officer and four terrorists were killed in the gun battle that happened in Poonch district neighbouring Rajouri.
