Embattled Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren on Sunday said he has faxed the name of party Member of Legislative Assembly Champai Soren to the central United Progressive Alliance leadership as his successor.
The one-line fax message said Champai Soren was elected the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief on Saturday night and was the party's choice to succeed him, the chief minister said.
He had on Saturday refused to reveal the name of his successor, saying he would first personally visit Delhi and convey the message to the central UPA leadership today.
Party sources said Soren, who had lost the Tamar by-poll in his bid to enter the assembly in the stipulated six months, was waiting for a word from Delhi before putting in his papers.
The 53-year-old Champai Soren represents Sareikela assembly constituency and has been a JMM leader ever since Shibu Soren took over the reins of the state in August last year.
Meanwhile, a series of meetings are taking place at various places among small groups of UPA MLAs and its leaders to discuss the political situation in the state and JMM's choice of leader.
