Man killed near J&K CM's residence

Army guards shot at and killed a civilian who was moving suspiciously in the cantonment area, some distance away from the chief minister's residence in Srinagar late on Tuesday evening.

A senior police officer said Abdul Rashid Raina, a resident of Pahalgam was shot by the soldiers after failing to respond to the army guard's direction and running away.

"He was asked to stop, but he ran away. Raina died on the spot. His body has been sent for autopsy," a senior police officer said.

The cantonment area houses the headquarters of army's 15 corps is the heavily guarded area in capital Srinagar.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, former chief ministers, Farooq Abdullah and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and other top politicians and officers' residences are located on Gupkar road in the Sonawar area of Srinagar.
