Tamar assembly bypoll begins in Jharkhand

Amidst tight security, polling for the Tamar assembly constituency began on Monday morning.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren [ Images ] is among the 15 candidates contesting for the seat, which had fallen vacant after Janata Dal - United legislature party leader Ramesh Singh Munda was killed by suspected Maoists on July 9 last year.

According to Deputy Election Officer C K Singh, a total of 35 companies of paramilitary forces have been deployed, besides other state forces, to oversee the elections. 

The results will be announced on January 8.
