The National Commission for Women on Friday decided not to accept the report filed by its member Nirmala Venkatesh on the Mangalore pub attacks, a week after she visited the site and blamed security lapses for the incident.

At a meeting in New Delhi today, the NCW took stock of the entire report filed by Venkatesh and decided not to accept it, said Commission chairperson Girija Vyas.

The NCW will not send a fresh team to Mangalore on a fact-finding mission as an independent commission from the Women and Child Development Ministry has already visited Mangalore for an on-the-spot assessment of the incident.

The move by NCW comes a day after the Women and Child Development Ministry issued a show cause notice to Venkatesh for not submitting her report on the case.

Venkatesh had led a three-member team that visited Mangalore on a fact-finding mission after the attack on girls by Sri Ram Sena activists.

The other members of the team comprised of a lawyer and a local NGO representative. The team led by Venkatesh had blamed the pub owners for not ensuring enough security for girls that led to the attack.
