A US drone fired missiles at a key Taliban base in Pakistan's restive northwest tribal region bordering Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing at least 12 militants and injuring over 15 others.
The drone fired two missiles at Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan's base at Khadezai village in a remote mountainous area of Aurakzai tribal agency, witnesses said.
Local residents and witnesses told TV channels that at least 12 militants were killed and more than 15 others injured in the strike.
There was no official word on the incident.
Reports said some key Pakistani Taliban leader and foreign fighters could have been in the base at the time of the strike.
The drone attack came a day after Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Baitullah Mehsud claimed responsibility for Monday's terrorist siege of a police training centre near Lahore and threatened to carry out more attacks, including on the US soil.
