The Bharatiya Janata Party wants an immediate stop to illegal migration from Bangladesh terming it a threat to the nation because of associated infiltration by anti-India elements through the porous border with the Bangladesh.
Addressing the party's Vijay Sankalp Samaroh, BJP president L K Advani said that the problem of illegal migration from Bangladesh to Assam and other parts of the Northeast was not only a threat to the identity of people of the region but also a threat to the nation.
Referring the alleged involvement of illegal Bangladeshi migrants in Saturday's blast at Mehrauli flower market in South Delhi, the BJP leader said infiltration from Bangladesh also paved way for sneaking in of Inter Services Intelligenge operatives to the country.
"The BJP wants an immediate stop to infiltration from Bangladesh and the deportation of illegal migrants, Muslims of Assam should be rest assured that their interests won't be harmed by our stand against Bangladeshi migrants. The BJP believes in real secularism where people from every religion enjoy their religious rights with dignity and pride," Advani said criticizing the opposition parties for trying to portray the BJP as a communal party.
He also claimed that the process for multiple photo identity cards and National Register of Citizens started by the National Democratic Alliance was halted by the United Progressive Alliance, adding that these steps could have helped in checking influx to a great extent.
Advani termed Dr Manmohan Singh as the weakest Prime Minister in the country for leaving all decisions to be taken at 10 Janpath instead of 7 Race Course Road.
"I have never seen such devaluation of the prime minister's office before. 7 Race Course Road is the most important address in the country, now it has shifted to 10 Janpath," Advani said
Advani took pot shots at the Congress-led UPA government for failing in controlling prices, contain terrorism and protect farmers. "The UPA government has betrayed the common man like never before. The escalation of prices of essentials, terrorism has made life unviable for the common people. No where in the country have so many farmers committed suicide after failing to clear their debts. The farmers' loan waiver programme announced by the UPA government is mere an eyewash," the BJP leader said.
Promising 'good and corruption-free governance', Advani called upon the people to vote back the NDA to power to help BJP make the 21 st century belong to India.
