Seven terrorists were gunned down by the army at Bashbari in Dhubri district of western Assam bordering Bangladesh at around 3.15 am on Friday and a huge cache arms and ammunition was recovered.

Security sources informed that acting a tipoff that a group of terrorists was passing in the area, the amy laid an ambush in Bashbari area.

On seeing the group of terrorists, the army team from the 21 Mountain Division challenged them and seven of them were killed in the ensuing exchange of fire. The identity of the militants was yet to be ascertained.

The army recovered 19 improvised explosive devices, four revolvers, two pistols, one pen pistol, 2 kg of explosives, a few grenades and over 7,000 takas (Bangladeshi currency notes).

Senior army officials from the headquarters of the 21 Mountain Division at Rangiya rushed to the spot following the incident.

Meanwhile, North East Students' Organisation, a banner organisation of all the state-level students organisations in the region, on Friday demanded effective action on part of the government to stop infiltration from Bangladesh across the unsealed border in the interests of national security.
