Two militants and an army jawan were killed in fierce gunbattles in Jammu and Kashmir where the army pushed back militants who had infiltrated into the country under the cover of firing from the Pakistani side along the Line of Control.

"A group of armed militants entered the Indian territory from Kabaristan post of Pakistan and were trapped by troops close to Kalash Indian Post between Zero line and border fencing along LoC in Poonch district on Sunday," defence officials told PTI.

"We have foiled an infiltration bid from Pakistan side," they said.

A jawan -- Sepoy Chiba of One Assam Regiment -- was killed in the gunbattle, which started on Sunday morning and was continuing till tonight, they said adding that the infiltration bid by militants followed heavy cross-border firing on Indian positions along LoC since Saturday.

"As the area is heavily mined, it has made the operation very difficult," officials said.

Unconfirmed reports said that a militant has also been killed and his body is lying on the mined area.

Another fierce gunbattle broke out between militants and army troops in Gool area of Ramban district on Sunday evening when army launched a cordon and search operation in the area, they said.

Two militants have been killed so far, they said adding that one AK rifle and some ammunition besides a pistol has been recovered.

Acting on a tip off, troops of 27 Rastriya Rifles launched a search operation and busted a hideout in Oran-Rathiri area in Poonch district, defence sources said.

Ten Chinese-made hand grenades, 13 UGBL grenades, 252 Pika rifle rounds, 240 AK rifle rounds and 8 AK rifle magazines were recovered from there, they said.

Troops also busted another hideout in Larhumba area in Reasi district and recovered one UBGL with 4 grenades, 18 AK rifle magazines, one SLR magazine, a pistol magazine and 93 pika rounds, they said, adding no arrests have been made.

On the information provided by some children about the presence of explosives materials in a bag in a nullah in Bahu Fort area of the city, police recovered a bag containing five grenades, they said.

The troops also recovered a live grenade from a field in the border belt of Vijaypur in Samab district on Sunday, sources said.
